🐾 New in 2025 at Zoo de Jurques: Coatis and Bush Dogs Living Together for the First Time!
The Zoo de Jurques is proud to announce the arrival of three coatis from the Arcachon Basin! These curious and agile small mammals have recently joined our large animal family and have discovered their new environment: a fully redesigned landscaped enclosure offering a unique presentation in France.
A Unique Shared Habitat: Coatis & Bush Dogs Together
For the first time in a French zoo, visitors will be able to observe cohabitation between South American coatis and bush dogs. These two species, both native to South America, share an opportunistic lifestyle and social behavior, making this association as surprising as it is enriching—for the animals and the visitors alike!
“This new immersive space is a true innovation in the French zoological landscape. We designed this habitat to encourage natural interactions between the species while respecting their specific needs,” explains the animal care team at Zoo de Jurques.
A Journey into the Heart of South America
Designed like a tropical South American clearing, this new enclosure combines tree trunks, platforms, grassy areas, and water features. The coatis will showcase their climbing talents, while the bush dogs will move as a pack along the ground. It’s a true immersion into South American biodiversity—now open to the public in the heart of Normandy.
